DIY Wedding: Eco-Friendly Party Favors
So RMK and I wanted to give our green party favors, and what is more green than a plant. So he planted tons of seeds…only to arrive at early May without any growth. Quick change of plan, I decided to give our guests wildflower seeds packets with the miniature handpainted pots. We were going to use it as place settings also, but again, change of plan since on the day of the wedding, there were major seating arrangement changes. In the end, it all worked out.
The Seed Packets
We bought small key envelopes and used our stamp to make them look classy. Silver and white actually look really nice on the orange-yellow background. All the names were printed out on the seed packets.
The Pots
Michaels or Hobby Lobby will have these on sale for about $2 for 10 in the early spring. I just used acrylic paint and a foam brush. It only takes one coat.
The Card Holder
Now originally, I thought about using floral card holders which you can buy at a wholesaler or online. They’re pricier AND they’re made for tall bouquets. For a mini-pot, you would have to cut them. So instead, I just used floral wire and wrapped them around the end of a stick. They hold up quite nicely.
Seeds
I recommend these seeds. Enough for about 150 bags with about 3 tablespoons for each person!
DIY Wedding: The Value of a Stamp
- The Final Product!
We had a really tightly budgeted wedding, but we wanted to incorporate nice designs and prints onto our wedding cards, party favors, etc. What’s the best way to do that?! Buy a versatile stamp that will look different on different kind of textures and use different inks. We bought a tree with a bird design and used it on our guests’ dessert bags, our thank you cards, our party favor seed packets, and even the ink rocks we put down on the table. I love silver and gold inks because they bring a little class. All for the low cost of $7 (use those 40% coupons from Michael’s and Hobby Lobby)!
DIY Wedding: Vintage Cupcake Holder
We had a dessert bar designed my sister that encompassed and entire wall. Pictures to come up after the photographer sends them back, but let’s just say it was badass. 120 cupcakes in strawberry, lemon, and vanilla, our couple’s cake, the groom’s cake, donut-holes (that’s right, donut holes because I LOVE them), miniature banana creme pies, rice krispie treats, miniature brownies, baklava, la madelines, and 9 different yellow and orange candies. Oh, did I add the coffee bar with homemade biscotti? Oh yes, my sister pulled out all the works.
But we did debate how to hold 120 cupcakes in several different ways to pull the look together. We went to Hobby Lobby and bought circular foam boards, floral rounds about 3-4″ in diameter, scrapbook paper, ribbon, and a hot glue gun. After doing many craft projects for the wedding, we found out the cheapest place is the dollar store. Seriously…they have everything listed above for a quarter of the cost. Who knew that floral rounds made of foam were $4 at hobby lobby and a package of 2 for $1 at the Dollar Store? Go figure.
Anyways, you cover the foam boards in vintage paper. You wrap the ribbon around the rounds, and then glue gun the stack. Now, it was wobbly because we did a terrible ribbon job, so we stuck a chopstick (gotta add a little azn in this) down the middle from the bottom up to stabilize it. Also, MAKE sure you know the cupcake height. If you’re too short, then your icing will be destroyed.
Good luck!
DIY Wedding: Tea-Dyeing Labels and Mason Jars
Our wedding theme was basically eco-conscious vintage. We took BIG steps to support local produce and businesses while asking our attendees to support our cause! One of which was to reuse their Mason jar keepsake for water, wine, and other drinks. My sister is the ultimate wedding designer, and she did a lot of the brainstorming. We used 100% organic cotton paper and dyed them with tea for that vintage look.
BTW, the best place to get mass quantities of Mason jars for cheap: Big Lots. Seriously! If you don’t have a Big Lots near you, try Ace Hardware, Wal-mart or a farm feed/livestock store. I did not have any luck online, because with shipping, they cost more than Wal-mart. Our jars also told our guest their table numbers.
Total supplies:
green twine (though ribbon will do),
paper-the thicker the better,
3 bags of cheap tea,
2 cups of hot water,
Mason jars,
Baking Sheet with sides,
Foil
1. Seep 3 bags of any kind of cheap tea in 2 cups of hot water. Let cool. A shortcut is to do 1 1/2 cups of hot water and then add ice to quickly cool down. (You could do this with cold or room temperature water but it takes a lot longer to get the dark color.)
2. Preheat oven to 250 deg.
3. Take the sheets of paper and lay on a baking pan with sides. Pour the cooled tea over the paper. Let sit for 15 seconds and then flip over for 15 seconds.
4. Lay the sheets on a piece of foil and bake in the oven for about 2-4 minutes. Watch so it doesn’t catch on FIRE!!
5. When it’s dry but not to crispy, take it out of the oven to cool.
6. Run it through you printer and print your labels! The uneven texture of the paper gives certain areas a slightly smeared or off-kilter effect, which is what you want for a vintage/old look. (Don’t print first because the tea will dissolve the ink. )
7. Punch holes in the labels using the end of a knitting hook or a needle.
8. Tie with twine to your Mason jar.
Yupee!
I do! I do!
I am getting married today! Yupeee!! I am super excited and nervous at the same. I am writing this about a week in advanced, and after this, everything is about wedding projects that I wanted to surprise my guests with! Then all the wedding madness will quiet down, and we move onto home decor. Ha! Nesting Syndrome!
Anyways, I thought it would be a good time to recount how much I adore my future hubby. He is my better half, my loving soul mate. Have you ever met someone, where the more time you spend with them, the more you not only love them but want to spend even more time with them? We don’t have to say anything, do anything. Just the mere presence of him.
I tell everyone, he saw me first. But I know, I heard him first. His laugh is infectious, and it was the first thing I fell in love with. On our first date, I knew right then, this was going to be one serious ride. Get ready for it. And it has been one amazing roller coaster ride. He is my kinder, more patient half. I live life…realistically I like to say. I hope for the optimism, but I don’t get my hopes up too high. I live it quickly, well-organized, and extremely busy. He brings in the flowers, the ability to slow things down, and the enjoyment of pure life. Through him, I have and give unconditional love, for whatever may come.
I cannot wait to embark on this journey they call marriage with the man. Here’s to wedded bliss and a wonderful wedding day!
Wedding Yvonnisms

Oh shiet...
The wedding hasn’t even begun yet, but the Yvonnisms keep rolling in. A little back story here, if you have ever been to an Asian wedding, they always do the same games (you should read the Sniff your Mate game…gross). They always have the blindfold the bride and have her figure out which of the male buttocks is her husbands. Or…the egg game. The dreaded egg game, where they give you a supposedly raw egg (most of the time it’s really raw), and you have to pass it through one guys leg pant to the other side without breaking it. Note to anyone reading this: NO EGGS!! But of course, I assumed Yvonne knew about this game…

There are so cute!
Me: We do have some cute games planned. But NO eggs on the property!
Y: I will bring eggs.
Me: No, I hate that game.
Y: What? Why? Afterwards, we can eat them.
Me: What?! You shouldn’t eat them Yvonne.
Y: I mean we’ll boil them.
Me: I know you will boil them. But they go through RMK’s pants. Are we talking about the same game?
Y: Shiet. That’s sick. I ain’t eating that. You can eat it.
Me: Uhhh…no thanks.
Y: Man, that means if it was raw, it would break all over his pants.
Sigh.
